What’s not to like about the Internet? Just think about it: You can do everything you need to these days online, and you don’t even need to be at home or even be on a computer! For most of us, any internet truths add up to convenience and modern-day life. You can do everything on a phone or computer: Shop. Bank. Make new friends. Become famous! So, what’s to worry about? Actually, more than you think, and maybe more than you want to know. MAKE THE INTERNET WORRY-FREE In a way, you can think of going on the internet like driving on a street, freeway or expressway. [After all, they initially referred to the internet as “ The World Wide Web” the “great information highway” back then.] A highway, like the internet, is open to anyone, and often packed with people going everywhere to do different things—like shop, bank and visit friends. It’s great! But no so fast. If you stop to think about it, you’ll remember that things can wrong along the way: The only way you can avoid the risks is to avoid driving in the first place, but who does that? It’s the same with being online, just like the above infographic illustrated so well. We just don’t think about the actual risks that are out there. Oh, and by the way, these risks aren’t exaggerated, as you should know. Just because you may have avoided internet troubles so far, it doesn’t mean you won’t one day. Even the best drivers might run into trouble. (Why do you think we all have car insurance?) Yes, being smart about how you use the internet is the best place to start. But that doesn’t eliminate the risks. You can be internet savvy, but that doesn’t make the internet less risky.
