Kapersky, the global cybersecurity company, says this on their website about free Wi-Fi. “The biggest threat to free Wi-Fi security is the ability for the hacker to position himself between you and the connection point. So instead of talking directly with the hotspot, you’re sending your information to the hacker, who then relays it on.” A crafty hacker could break into the network and monitor traffic as it travels across the network. According to Kapersky, working in this setup, you’re in danger. “The hacker has access to every piece of information you’re sending out on the Internet.” They go on to so say, “important emails, credit card information and even security credentials to your business network. Once the hacker has that information, he can—at his leisure—access your systems as if he were you.” Maybe you’ve heard about VPNs before, but haven’t gotten around to using one for yourself or even bothering to know what it is. It’s time you did. Online security is probably the number one reason most VPN users signed up for a Virtual Private Network. The “persona” images in this infographic above are entertaining sure. But they also do a good job of highlighting the important reasons security-minded people choose to use a VPN.
